The Golf Blog says: Opening a 5-shot lead, Louis Ooshuizen is on the verge of becoming the new “Oostie.” But Dustin Johnson proved at the US Open a 5-shot lead can evaporate in a heartbeart. In fact, in 1982, phenom Bobby Clampett had a commanding 5-shot lead at the British Open after the second round, only to end up playing horribly for the final two rounds. We’ll see how Oostie does.

The Golf Blog says: OK, we’re taking the easy way out. We’re picking Tiger Woods to win the 2010 Open Championship at St. Andrews. He won at that course in 2000 by 8 strokes, and then again in 2005 by 5 strokes. When asked where he’d like the majors to be played, Tiger said: “St. Andrews, St. Andrews, St. Andrews, and St. Andrews.”

Armed with a new Nike Method putter, Tiger may be unbeatable if his putter gets hot on this course. We would not be surprised if that happens.

Masayuki Sasaya of Gold’s Factory is now offering putters visually similar to what Tiger Woods plays on the PGA Tour.  This putter is based off of the Gold’s Factory Private Stock No.2 Design which in many ways resembles the Scotty Cameron Newport 2.

One of Tiger’s back up putters will cost you about forty thousand U.S dollars while this GF designed version will only cost you 1/40th of that at 1000 USD.  Made in Japan by Gold’s Factory it also features a sight circle, flat blast grey finish at all address locations and a polished sole and face area.  Traditional light milling was used on the face and please remember that if there is something you don’t like about the design Master Sasaya can customize it to your every need.

It’s being offered standard in 34″ 4* loft and 71* lie angle much like Tiger’s original specifications.  The paint fill choice is up to you and based off your selection of color your grip can be matched to the theme even with paint fill in the GF lettering, these pictures show a dark translucent blue effect.  And if you look closely you can see a G logo inside the back cavity large dot.

The Golf Blog says: Tiger Woods electrified the crowd on Saturday, making spectacular shots and putts. None was more dramatic than Tiger’s 3-wood behind the trees on 18 that he blasted 240 yards onto the green. Tiger yelled, “C’MON!!” and scurried around the tree to see his shot land on the green. That drew a high five from Stevie Williams, his caddie. Tiger was his old self, fist pumping 3 different times, each time more ferocious. But Dustin Johnson (2 time reigning ATT Pebble Beach champ) matched Tiger’s 66, to pull a 3-shot lead over Graeme McDowell and a 5 shot lead over Tiger Woods.

Realistically, only 6 players can win this (see below). If Dustin Johnson plays well, it’s over. Easier said than done.

The Golf Blog says: Graeme McDowell became the 1st European to win the U.S. Open in 40 years. He won it with a conservative 3 over 74, even for the tournament. Surprisingly, the closest competitor was Frenchman Gregory Havret, who finished 2nd at +1 and who had the best round of anyone in the final 3 pairings. Havret was a qualifier for the U.S. Open and barely snuck in by sinking a 50 foot bomb to get into a playoff.

The big guns–Ernie Els, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson–all faltered. Ernie actually was tied for the lead at -3, but a bogey on the 9th and then double bogey on the 10th derailed him completely. Ernie hit a terrible drive off the cliff on 10, and then hit his next shot back into the hazard. Meanwhile, Phil’s round was derailed after he drove the 4th green–only to 3 putt it for par. After that, Phil couldn’t get anything going (even though he birdied the 1st hole with a long putt from off the green). Tiger Woods played the worst of the 3 big guns, shooting a 75.

And then there was poor Dustin Johnson. The 3rd round leader made a complete mess of the 2nd hole, trying to pitch the ball out of the greenside rough left handed and then right handed. Dustin tripled the hole, and then the wheels came completely unhinged. He doubled the 3rd and bogeyed the 4th. For the rest of the round, Dustin was pretty much a dead golfer walking, rattling off 5 more bogeys and no birdies, for an 82. Ouch.

The Golf Blog says: Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Tiger Woods, clearly frustrated after his final round, blamed 3 “mental errors” for costing him the tournament. In his statement, he did disagree with one club choice by Stevie Williams, but it’s not clear if he was blaming Stevie for that selection.
